You know how when one of the streaming giants is trying to grow their already bloated subscription list they will go on a mad dash for new content? A lot of times, they pick up mini series. Shows that are only running for a pre-determined amount of time or episodes, and usually focusing on a specific topic. Mini-Series are great in that you don’t usually need to commit a lot of time, and usually get straight to the good stuff.
However, if you’re like me and get emotionally attached to characters and shows, it’s really hard to move on after one has ended. My point is, watch more mini series. Ok, that’s not actually my point, but I do love mini series. So much so, that I’m doing my own version of that, but with essays. I’m really excited about this project, so I hope you like it. In an effort to hit my personal goal of at least 500 words per post (judge me if you want), I created a Q&A below that should answer most, if not all of your basic questions about this upcoming series. If you have other questions, or just want to share your opinion, feel free to do so in the comments.
Mini Series Title: The Black Album
The Black Album is a series of essays published over the next couple of weeks. It will use specific songs to unpack and discuss things like, politics, sex, love, and whatever else feels relevant. Each essay will have a featured song that includes all of the relevant song credits, and when possible, one interesting fact about the song or the artist. The songs will be added to a Spotify playlist made available to everyone, and will allow for folks to add songs they think should be used for future post.
When Does the Black Album Come Out?
The First post from the Black Album will come out on March 9th, 2022. Every other post from this series will published on Tuesday mornings.
Will There Be Album Art?
Maybe, I would like album art, but I haven’t thought of anything good, and I don’t have enough skills to design one on my own. Let’s see what happens.
What Songs are you using for this?
So far I have picked 10 songs to write about. But who knows, I could always add more to the list. Below are a couple of the songs I plan to use.
Juicy-Notorious BIG
M.A.A.D- Kendrick Lamar
Mama- My Chemical Romance
All that I got- Ghostface
Superman- Eminem
Why Are You Naming a Series of Essay’s like it’s an album?
I love music, and in another world where I was more skilled and had better diction, I might be a rapper. When I give speeches, I imagine I’m spitting a hot 16, I think of my essays as musical projects. Also, I’m weird, love music, it’s my sub-stack page and last but not least, I fucking want to.
Are we stuck reading your shitty essays about songs we don’t like for the foreseeable future?
I hope everyone will love this series as much as I plan to enjoy writing the essays for it, but no worries. This sub stack has other contributors, so if this isn’t for you, there will be other things to read.
